Cape Verde Islands | Colourful Portraits

It’s 2006. In the Cape Verde archipelago, a former colony of the Portuguese Empire, I make my digital début.

I struggle. It takes some time to get used to the weight of the camera, its functionalities, and last but not least, recharging batteries almost everyday.
My only rehearsal, a 6-hour-flight.

On stage: a selection of 12 portraits shot with a (back then) brand new Nikon D200.

Everyone person, family  or colleague in these portraits received a print copy of their photo (if they wanted). If you take somebody’s picture, never just promise to send it over. Do it.
